The glorious products of the hive. This is the bounty that most beekeepers, and consumers, are looking for. The primary item that is synonymous with bees and hives is HONEY! Here at OCB we believe that the local honey you get from us should be as nutritious and healthy as it can be. To that end we don’t use hard chemicals in our hives, we let the bees make their own wax so we don’t introduce anything undesirable to the hive via contaminated foundation, and we only strain our honey to remove debris and wax. By doing this we leave the pollen that contains many of the nutrients. We don’t believe in ultra filtering or pasteurizing our honey, this only removes the good stuff. If you want all natural, raw honey, your first stop should be right here at Ohio Country Bees.

Wax – Beeswax is used to make all kinds of things from candles to lip balm, salves, furniture finish, and many other craft items. We collect up wax from our hives from burr comb, broken comb, honey comb caps, and from the crush and strain harvesting process. The light, whiter, colored wax comes from the wax cappings from honey extracting and from brand new drawn comb. It is harder to come by and does command a premium due to the high demand for its’ color and purity for use in cosmetics and such. The rest of the wax collected will be some shade of yellow or orange. We render our wax using either a solar melter or a water bath process and remove as much or the dirt, propolis, and other physical contaminants as we can. When available, we make our wax in 1 oz. and 1 pound blocks.

Propolis  Propolis is the bee glue that honey bees use to seal up all the cracks and crevices in the hive. It is antifungal and antimicrobial and has been known to help with wound healing. Propolis is sought after for use in salves and tinctures. It is a time consuming process to collect propolis in any quantity and it is priced accordingly. We will do our best to clean the worst of the debris out of the propolis we collect but what you receive may still need further cleaning before using.
